I told Under Secretary of State to-day about His Majesty's Government's anxiety that Japanese were about to make a further demand to force the resignation of Sir Frederick Maze from the Chinese Maritime Customs. Mr. Welles said that the United States Government had so far received no appeal for support from Sir Frederick Maze but was extremely interested in the subject.
